Main technical-productive characteristics of meliponiculture in two locations of the municipality of Calkiní, Campeche

Objective: To identify the main technical-productive characteristics of two meliponiculture production systems—traditional and technical—in locations municipality Calkiní, Campeche. Design/Methodology/Approach: Semi-structured interviews 60 items were applied to bee growers from Pucnanchen Santa Cruz between August December 2021. The population meliponiculturists was established by using snowball method. Results: We found a total 43 colonies M. beecheii species (39 hobones 14 technified boxes). interviewed are over 49 years old have an average 10.75 per meliponary. In modern meliponaries, galvanized metal sheets replaced huano (Sabal yapa) leaf roofing. Likewise, some been boxes breed native bees. Study limitations/Implications: This study describes systems (traditional technical) used in Findings/Conclusions: There is decline number people practicing meliponiculture, activity still rooted rural communities that retains its economic, cultural, social importance. communities, use melipona honey for health purposes persists, as well religious customs associated with this type honey.
